Joint Pain Treatment in Ayurveda: Beyond Painkillers

Two very different diseases
Sandhigata Vata is degenerative — osteoarthritis. The joint is dry, crepitus is present, pain worsens with activity and improves with rest and warmth. Treatment is nourishing: oil therapies, Basti, Rasayana medicines.
Amavata is inflammatory — closer to rheumatoid arthritis. Multiple joints, morning stiffness lasting hours, swelling, and often fever or fatigue. Here oil alone can worsen things; treatment starts with Ama digestion, Langhana and specific bitter herbs before any oleation.

Why relief holds after treatment
Therapy reduces pain; strength keeps it away. Every patient leaves with specific strengthening and mobility work — quadriceps for knees, deep core for lower back, scapular work for the neck — plus weight guidance where relevant. Patients who do this rarely return in the same state.
